Congratulations! Professors Shun-Yi Jian and Yi-Ting Lai of Our Department and Their Teams Recognized by the NSTC in the "Future Tech Award"!

~Professor Shun-Yi Jian's technology "Next-Generation Green Anti-Corrosion Coating Technology for Magnesium Alloys" and Professor Yi-Ting Lai and her team's technology "Sustainable Phosphorus Cycling" were both recognized in the Future Tech Award~

Out of more than 650 applications nationwide this year, only 84 were selected. Only three universities of science and technology received an award, and Minghsin University Technology (MCUT) received two — the only private university of science and technology to win. Congratulations again to both professors!

About the Award:

To showcase Taiwan's forward-looking research capabilities and support the nation's strategic development, the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) holds the annual "Future Tech Award." The award reviews outcomes of projects funded by the NSTC, Academia Sinica, the Ministry of Education, the Sports Administration, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, identifying outstanding and innovative research achievements based on "technical innovation" and "industrial applicability." Funded academic and research teams are invited to compete for this honor and for a key opportunity to bring their technologies to market.

This year's call for entries aligns with national development strategy, covering eight major fields: natural and sustainable technology applications, green energy and net-zero technology, artificial intelligence applications, advanced materials and chemical engineering, semiconductors and optoelectronic communications, biotechnology and new drugs, medical devices, and applications of technology in the humanities. Selected technologies will be prominently exhibited at the "Future Tech Pavilion" of the Taiwan Innovation Technology Expo (TIE), held September 17–19 this year at the Taipei World Trade Center, Hall 1. Through in-person exhibits and on-site matchmaking events, the expo helps teams connect precisely with industry experts and venture capital resources from Taiwan and abroad, making it the ideal stage for showcasing innovative technologies and finding collaboration opportunities.

In addition to the award, on-site exhibition, and recognition ceremony, winning technologies also receive a range of value-added resources, including opportunities to participate in overseas events to expand international collaboration opportunities. Furthermore, to help bridge academic and research technologies with industrial R&D, the program connects winners with resources such as industry-academia collaboration or research-based startup projects, helping technologies move toward the market, realize industrial value, and strengthen the alignment between innovative research outcomes and market demand.

Purpose of the Call for Entries:

To identify research outcomes with high technical innovation and industrial development potential, and through exhibition and matchmaking platforms, promote the connection between research technologies and industrial R&D, accelerate the deployment and collaboration of technologies with industrial application value, and showcase the international visibility and technological strength of Taiwan's research achievements.
